Overview

Barossa Goldfields is located within Para Wirra Conservation Park and is where you can learn about the fascinating history of the Barossa Goldfields as you walk through a once thriving gold mining area – on one of the three loop trails.

Victoria Hill trail is the shortest trail at 1.4 km long and takes approximately 1 hour. Phoenix trail is 4.8 km long and takes approximately 2 hours and includes part of the Victoria Hill trail. The longest trail is Lady Pearce trail which is 5.8 km and takes approximately 3 hours and includes parts of the other 2 trails.

You can pick up a walking trail brochure from the Barossa Visitor Centre when it is open.

You can also visit the quaint Bowden Cottage Museum to learn even more about the gold mines and the challenging lives of those who worked them. The Museum is open most Tuesday mornings and the third Sunday of the month.

Re-enactment Days are held each year at Bowden Cottage on the fourth Sunday in September where visitors can pan for gold, see mining displays, learn about local history, see blacksmithing demonstrations, old working engines and enjoy Billy tea and damper. Check out our What’s On Calendar for more details.
