Pichi Richi Railway is a heritage railway, delighting families with scenic trips through the timeless Flinders Ranges since 1974.

Heritage trains run past breathtaking Flinders Ranges scenery, on the last operating section of the original "Old Ghan route". Open weekends from March - November each year, with extra weekday trains during School Holidays.

Half-day trips into the Pichi Richi Pass - recommended for littlies - depart from Quorn. For a full-day adventure, board The Afghan Express from Pt Augusta to Quorn return.

The railway is restored and run by the dedicated volunteers of the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society.

Behind the scenes Workshop Tours of the railway's restoration and maintenance facilities at Quorn are conducted on selected dates: a highlight for train fans big and small.

Afghan Express

Full-day journey from Port Augusta Railway Station to Quorn and return (78km). Approximately 6 hour return journey, including a 2 hour stopover in Quorn.

Pichi Richi Explorer

Half-day steam train journey from Quorn. Approximately 2.5 hour Quorn to Woolshed Flat and return (32km).

Barwell Bull

Half-day ride from Quorn to Woolshed Flat and return (32km). 2.5 hour duration.

Sundowner Explorer

Departing Quorn at 5.30 pm, relax and see the ranges painted sunset colours aboard the 1928-built Barwell Bull diesel railcar. This is the best time to see wildlife in the stunning Pichi Richi Pass. Duration 2.5 hours.

Coffee Pot

Savour a heritage rail experience aboard the beautifully appointed steam motor coach. The unique “Coffee Pot” is the last operating example of its type worldwide. Over one hundred years old, this ornate Edwardian-era steam railcar has been lovingly restored by volunteers.
