Overview

The "City of Adelaide" is the world's oldest surviving Clipper Ship and played a significant role in the colonial history of South Australia.

It is the most important historic ship in Australia.

Constructed 1864 to carry passengers to Adelaide South Australia, it made 23 return voyages.

With a composite construction, it was the pinnacle of sailing ship design. Only 2 survive today, the younger being the Cutty Sark.

Recovered from Scotland after a 14 year campaign to save the vessel, the City of Adelaide arrived in Adelaide in February 2014.

The City of Adelaide carried immigrants from places such as England, Scotland, Cornwall, Ireland, Germany and Scandinavia.
